Method For Driving Lessons To Help Protect Against COVID-19
In order to resume driving lessons, we will now have to follow Government guidelines to protect us and others against the spread of COVID 19. For this reason, I would like you to read the following and if you have any concerns or would like anything explained please do not hesitate to contact me.
Before I pick you up for the lesson you will need to consider the following:
- Have you had any symptoms of the virus within the last 7 days.
- Do you know of anyone or have been in contact with anyone that is showing any symptoms.
- If you have, you will need to contact me before your lesson so we can discuss if it is safe to continue with your lesson, even if it is on the day it commences.
- The late cancellation rule will not apply while these precautions are in place.
- I would ask that you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, in line with Government guidance, and to do this immediately before leaving the house for your lesson. If you want to wear disposable gloves, you can put these on just before you get in the car.
- Make sure you wear clothing that is suitable and covers as much of you as possible, including arms and legs.
- When I arrive to collect you, I will need to ask if you have carried out the above before you get into the car. I will meet you by the car and we will have this conversation while keeping a safe distance before we commence with the lesson. I need to be 100% sure we will be safe.
- If all is good, only then, will the lesson continue.
- I will have cleaned my hands with a sanitizer before the start of the lesson and wiped down the internal of the car, which would include door handles, window and mirror controls, seat and head restraints, seatbelt and its connections, gear lever, steering wheel, indicators and wiper stalks, and car keys. We will need to minimise contact for safety.
- The windows will be down as much as possible during the lesson to allow for ventilation, and you may have to wrap up warm, as it could be cooler in the car. And if you are fortunate enough to have more hair than me, you may need to tie it back.
- If you feel the need to cough or sneeze while driving, please hold up your arm and catch it in the inner part of your elbow.
- I will be carrying hand sanitiser and antibacterial wipes and a supply of disposable bin bags in the car for safe disposal of tissues and wipes.
- Face masks: You could use a facemask if you wish. The advice on the effectiveness of face masks and coverings varies, but if it makes you feel more comfortable during your lesson then the option is there. Not advisable if you suffer from asthma.
- We need to avoid facing directly at each other when discussing scenarios, so it is safer to face forwards in the vehicle, due to the fact that we cannot maintain a safe distance apart.
- When you are ready for a test I will brief you on what to expect as these guidelines are not properly confirmed yet, but all the above will apply and if you have any cause to fail the test, rather than go the full 40mins of the test, you will return to the test centre straight away.
- All the above is to keep us safe on your lesson and hopefully it will not be for long, but if there is anything that you are not sure about or you would like to add, please do not hesitate to contact me.
